The pitman arm is the most important part that secures the steering trapezium to the gearbox. Such a structural element performs reciprocating rotation directly in a given sector, which depends directly on the nature of rotation of the corresponding steering shaft. The bipod has a rigid connection with the gear sector of the entire mechanism. Thanks to the bipod, the torque of the corresponding sector is converted into the movement of a longitudinal thrust.

The design of a pitman arm

The device of this structural element is quite simple. The pitman arm is a one-piece cast steel part with several heads - upper and lower. Each has its own hole. The shape of the part is curvilinear. It provides details the maximum durability at the minimum sizes. In addition, such a structural element ensures the correct distribution of forces.
