The oil pump creates the necessary pressure in the engine lubrication system. This guarantees effective lubrication of all moving parts by supplying oil to the channels. After that, it flows further to the rest of the components, which significantly extends the life of the power unit as a whole. In a dry sump system, this part, among other things, pumps lubricants into the oil tank. It starts from the crankshaft or camshaft, depending on the design features of the car.

Based on the method of control, there are adjustable and unregulated pumps. In the first case, the pressure inside the system is regulated by a change in pump performance, in the second case, by the operation of a special pressure-reducing valve.

It is made of heat-resistant material, as the seal is overheated due to the rapid rotation of the parts. Over time, it can dry out, crack and lose its properties. The presence of oil leaks may indicate damage and the need to replace the shaft seal.
