A special electromechanical device is used to transfer current from the coil to the spark plugs. It received the name distributor. This device transfers high voltage current in sequence and in a given order to the spark plugs. Inside the housing is the rotor shaft. On it is a slider made of dielectric material. It is insulated from the vehicle body and from the metal shaft. Gears drive the latter. They are mounted on the crankshaft of the power unit.

The distributor does not tolerate water well. This is important to consider. To protect against moisture, the shaft is made extremely long.
