The diesel particulate filter differential pressure sensor measures exhaust backpressure and signals when the powertrain control module should begin the regeneration process to clean the filter of diesel particulate matter or soot. The DPF differential pressure sensor plays an important role in keeping the diesel particulate filter working properly. A clogged diesel particulate filter is not only an expensive repair, but a disastrous one for your diesel engine.

The functional features of particle sensor

VEMO brand Particle Sensor is usually installed in the engine compartment to protect against overheating. The sensor is connected to the engine control unit (ECU) by an electrical connector and is connected to the inlet and outlet of the particulate filter through two silicone hoses. One hose connects before the DPF, the other after the filter. By measuring the difference in exhaust gas pressure before and after the filter, the sensor can estimate the amount of soot that has accumulated in the filter and report this to the ECU. And it, in turn, can choose the time to start the regeneration process of the particulate filter.
