Seals for the oil pump are made by stamping. Cardboard, paper, paronite, cork can be used as material. In rare cases, such pads can be made of leather.

The operation of the oil pump seal

It is necessary to interfere with the operation of the oil pump much less often than other components. This means that you rarely have to disassemble it and change the seal. And, regardless of the material of manufacture, as a result of long-term operation of the unit, the seal "sticks" to one or both of the adjoining surfaces of the cover and the oil pump housing. Therefore, when disassembling it, it is better to replace the seal, after carefully cleaning the abutment surfaces from the remnants of the old seal.

In the case of installing a new pump, the seal must be changed without fail, even if it has not adhered to the cover or flange of the housing and looks completely new. Crimping the seal always occurs "individually" - in strict accordance with the configuration of specific mating planes. As a result, the deformable areas of the seal may not match the shape of the new cover, which will lead to a leak.
