In normal operation of the turbocharger, the pressure in the compressor is always higher than the pressure in the axle housing. Therefore, a breakthrough of the gas mixture from the turbine and the air compressed in the compressor is possible inside it, which, capturing the lubricant will pass through the drain oil pipeline into the engine oil sump. The sealing ring not only ensures the tightness of the unit, but also transfers thermal energy from the axis to the housing. Like most parts, this ring wears out naturally over time.
