The main task of mechanical bonnet locks is to prevent unauthorized access to the engine compartment. The bonnet lock is usually in two parts. The control part recognizes the control signal from an external electronic device or the turn of the key in the lock cylinder, and by moving the cable inside the casing transfers the impact to the lock part, blocking the standard lock or engaging with a specially installed metal "loop".

In addition to protecting the parts located under the bonnet, the bodywork performs the following functions:
