The brake caliper control module has an internal motor, actuator, release system, and temperature sensor. The brake caliper control module also contains the logic to apply and release the brake caliper when commanded by the brake caliper switch. When the brake caliper control module receives a signal from the switch, the internal board temperature is checked to verify that it is within the operating range before the control module performs the requested operation.

The FEBI BILSTEIN brand Control Element, parking brake caliper also diagnoses the internal brake caliper motor circuit to ensure it is functioning properly. The brake caliper motor circuit is used to control the motor, apply and release the brake caliper cable, which applies and releases the brake caliper. The brake caliper diagnoses the internal circuitry of the brake caliper itself. This circuit is used to drive the motor that pulls the brake caliper cable and ultimately applies and releases the brake caliper.
