The ballast is an interesting element of the car's on-board electrical system, which is installed on vehicles with a gas discharge lamps. It makes no sense to connect such lighting directly to the car's on-board electrical network - it will not work without a special device.

- Transformation of low voltage (12, 24 V) into high voltage (0.5, 23-30 kV);
- Normal start of xenon lighting when the head light is turned on;
- Support for the further operation of the headlights;
- Control of the main parameters of optics;
- Prevention of abnormal modes and emergency switching off headlights if necessary.
In the case of bi-xenon, the ballast has another task: switching between low and high beams. As it has already become clear from the list above, such a unit is needed to turn on gas discharge lamps, maintain their operation and minimize the chances of emergencies. At the same time, the main task of the ballast is to increase the voltage from normal to high values - gas discharge lamps require a very high ignition voltage and increased, relative to the standard 12, 24 V, voltage to maintain further work.
