An electric current is generated in a moving part. The rotor consists of several elements: a shaft, an alkaline unit, a core, a field winding, a collector and slip rings.

Consisting of several sheets of electrical steel, the core is mounted on a shaft or in a cylindrical sleeve. The ends of the winding are attached to the plates that make up the manifold, and it is connected to the shaft through an insulating sleeve.
