While transmissions of three and four-speed automatic transmissions were quite unpretentious in terms of oil quality, the filter played a secondary role. These were simple devices with a stainless steel mesh. Such filters were simply washed periodically, and there was no need to change them. The optimal solution was to insert synthetic double membranes into plastic housings, make them easy to remove and change with every oil change.
