In order for internal combustion engines to operate with little wear, they must be lubricated. Part of the oil required for this burns out due to the large amount of heat generated and must be removed from the oil using a suitable filter. Metal debris and other dirt is also trapped by the oil filter. The oil filter is housed in a matching oil filter housing which is sealed with a finely fitted cap and appropriate seal.
