The operation of NOx sensor

The current requirements for the environmental performance of internal combustion engines are strict. Most of the cars with gasoline engines have so-called. direct injection, and the engine itself at partial load consumes a lean mixture. Let us explain: the minimum required amount of oxygen, in fact, atmospheric air, is used to prepare a lean mixture. Even when burning a lean mixture, a large amount of oxides with a carbon and nitrogen base is formed. Conventional catalysts capture the former, while the latter can become a problem - it is much more difficult to neutralize nitrogen oxides. Additional storage catalysts for nitrogen oxides help to solve the problem partially. Such catalysts have a certain storage capacity, which must be recorded. This task the NOx sensor takes on.
