The brake cables are the part of the vehicle's parking brake system that activates the brakes on the rear wheels.

Wheeled vehicles equipped with a hydraulically actuated braking system use a mechanical parking brake with direct brake pads from a cabin mounted lever. The pads drive is based on flexible elements - cables, which serve as rods.

The construction of the cable

The design of the A.B.S. brand Cable, parking brake is quite simple. Steel cable inside a polyethylene sheath at the ends with attachments to the rest of the parking brake. The sheath protects the cable from external influences that are aggressive for steel - water, salt. The shell on the brackets is attached to the body. Inside the sheath, the cable is lubricated with a special grease. When tightening the parking lever, the cable moves inside the sheath and transfers the force to the brake mechanism. Often the cables to the wheels are different, right and left, because of the brackets fixed to the shell. In addition to the cables leading to the wheels (long), there is a central cable - from the lever to the so-called equalizer. Long cables to the wheels are attached to the equalizer.
