1. Transformation of low voltage (12, 24 V) into high voltage (0.5, 23-30 kV);
2. Normal start of xenon lighting when the head light is turned on;
3. Support for the further operation of the headlights;
4. Control of the main parameters of optics;
5. Prevention of abnormal modes and emergency switching off headlights if necessary.

In the case of bi-xenon, the ballast has another task: switching between low and high beams.
