Axle Beam - VKDS 478502 SKF

Axle beams allow you to stay strictly in a certain position of the wheels of one axle, to perceive from them vertical and lateral forces, reactive and braking moments that occur during acceleration and braking of the car, and to transfer these forces and moments through the suspension parts to the car frame. The axle beams are hollow, they have a main gear, a differential and axle shafts (drives of the leading steered wheels on the front axles) installed inside them. The axle beams of cars end with flanges, to which the ball bearings of the steering knuckles are attached. Steering knuckles provide the ability to turn the front steered drive wheels. To install the wheel hub, there are trunnions at the ends of the axle beams.

The design of axle beam

The SKF brand Axle Beam consists of two halves stamped from steel, welded together. The section of the axle beams in the areas under the springs is square. In the middle part of the beam is expanded to install the final drive housing. A drain plug with a magnet is screwed into the bottom of the crankcase cover.
