Modern motorcycles are manufactured mainly with complex multi-plate clutches. The clutch allows the engine to be decoupled and smoothly coupled to the gearbox for starting, shifting, etc. In addition, slipping under dynamic (shock) loads, the clutch protects engine and transmission parts from overloads and breakdowns.
Inside the clutch basket, there is a drum, discs, friction and steel, springs or a diaphragm and a pressure plate (also called a release plate). The number of discs and springs depends on the motorcycle model. When the clutch is depressed, the steel discs slide between the friction discs; if the discs are compressed, the basket and the drum rotate together.
The conditions of the steel lining disc set usage
When replacing the clutch discs, also check the steel intermediate discs. If the steel clutch discs are severely worn or discolored (when overheated, the steel clutch discs change color and deform), then such discs must be replaced with new ones.
