Quite often, car owners notice a lubricant leak from under the oil filter. A similar problem is quite relevant not only for cars with high mileage, but often for new cars. There may be several reasons for this; one of them is the wear of the oil filter seal or its incorrect installation in new ICEs.
The oil filter seal is a rubber piece that prevents engine oil from leaking from the oil filter. It is installed on the flange (cover) of the filter and contributes to the hermetic twisting of the oil filter onto the fitting.
The functionality of an oil filter seal
The DT SPARE PARTS brand Seal, oil filter is made of elastic rubber, which should help prevent oil leakage from under the oil filter. When installing, the oil filter must be tightly twisted so that oil is not squeezed out of the system. The surest sign of seal wear is an oil leak from under the oil filter, which is "squeezed" out of the system under the available system pressure. This may be due to cracks in the seal or rupture. However, another cause of oil leakage may be an insufficiently tightened filter on the fitting or a thread break. The reasons for the failure of the seal may be filter twisting (twisted too tightly) or constantly high oil pressure in the system.
